Governor Bill Haslam signed a new law earlier this month, changing the Workers’ Compensation system in Tennessee. A majority of the new law won’t take effect until July 2014, however, some terms will take effect immediately.
This new system places workers’ compensation cases under a state agency supervised by an administrator of Governor Haslam’s choice, instead of the current practice of going through the courts.
What does this mean for current workers’ comp cases? Nothing. These cases will follow the current system. The new law will apply to cases starting on July 1, 2014 or later.
